In the past, I prayed for something like this product (Pet Balm). We have owned several West Highland White and Scottish Terriers over the years and with maybe one exception, they all had diverse skin challenges, some serious. Generally speaking, our veterinarians would prescribe prednisone or other anabolic steroids. They are used to control swelling and itching, but designed for short term use only. The steroids worked pretty well, but these little animals are real Houdini’s at making you think they swallowed the pill until you see it on the floor!
The main concern of steroids are the many side effects your pet must suffer. Side effects from anti-inflammatory steroids in dogs are more numerous than in cats. The most common are a drastic increase in appetite and continuous thirst, with the resulting frequent urination and unexpected weight gain. This overworks the kidneys and liver.
Other side effects include mood swings and panting. Long term steroid use can cause skin lesions and very serious changes inside the body, most notably Cushing’s disease. With long term steroid use these internal changes can shorten the dog’s life span. I knew I didn’t want this, but I despised seeing the pet I loved so tormented!
Our Pet Skin & Paw Balm formula is “All Natural”. It only takes a tiny dab. Warm 1/8 teaspoon of the balm between clean hands and gently apply to the effected skin or paw. It will absorb completely in about 3-5 minutes and leave a very light scent for about 30 minutes. You may apply it as often as you prefer, but at least twice a day is recommended.
Used in conjunction with the Pet Flea Shampoo & Coat Conditioner Bar you will have a chemical free pet!
This balm will address the pet’s skin and coat health with a big dose of natural conditioners. The tepezcohuite will soothe inflamed skin (Hot Spots), control pain and generate new skin growth for a quick recovery.
It is soooo enjoyable to see your pet finally “At Peace” and the bonus is a shiny, healthy coat, paw pads and claws.
The Pet bar combines Diatomaceus Earth to kill fleas, lice, mites and ticks with Calcium Bentonite to improve coat appearance, and Castor Oil to condition the skin. It is long lasting, with an excellent lather. I noticed commercial soaps made our pets miserable and they immediately started wallowing on the ground to try to remove the odor. The chemical soaps seemed to kill the fleas, but caused a bigger problem with scratching from skin irritation and allergic reactions, plus the pet stunk!
Unlike chemical pet products, Diatomaceous Earth is safe to ingest when the animal bathes its coat, and in fact should be ingested by the pet for its many health benefits. If you buy DE, just make sure it is “food grade” before you shake a little on their food. The essential oils are added for their therapeutic application on skin and coat health as well as a deterrent to fleas, ticks, mites and lice, while not strong enough to irritate the pet’s sensitive scent glands.
Everyone who has used the Pet Bar & Balm have commented on how nice the animal smells afeter use, this list of customers include many professional groomers! The pleasant smell is not too strong to aggrevate the powerful scent glands of the pet, but eliminates that "wet dog" bad odor!
