Many people's response to fears about West Nile Virus (WNV) and the normal annoyance of mosquito bites is to slather on the insect repellent, especially on their children, but is the bug spray worse that the bite...you betcha! The most common choice is a DEET based repellent. Don't do it!!! When you realize what it is...you will not want to use it!
DEET is a registered pesticide. DEET is short for N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide (also known as N,N-diethyl-3-methylbenzamide).It is a member of the toluene chemical family. Toulene is a solvent used in rubber and plastic cements, dry cleaning fluid and paint thinners. In 1998, 15 YEARS AGO, the US EPA made it illegal for any product containing DEET to make any child safety claims. Products with DEET are required to carry instructions that they should not be used at all for children under 6 months and for children under 2 years, only concentrations of less than 10% DEET should be used, and only once a day.

At present, DEET is used in more than 230 products with concentrations up to 100 percent!!!

Studies have shown that DEET causes brain cell death and behavioral changes after frequent and prolonged use. This exposure causes neurons to die in regions of the brain that control muscle movement, learning, memory, and concentration. Ref: Duke University Medical Center pharmacologist Mohamed Abou-Donia has spent 30 years researching the effects of pesticides. DEET is suspected of being responsible, in part, for Gulf War Syndrome.

The American public started to look for alternatives after an ABC "Prime Time" report told of Tim Christiansen, who at 26 years old died after using DEET twice one summer day in 1994; and Elijah Harrison, an 8 year old boy who's mother sprayed him with a 25% DEET product once a day for two days - he still suffers from seizures; and on workers in the Everglades National Park who experienced rashes, dizziness and numbness of the lips after using a DEET repellent.

Even the EPA, which regulates this pesticide category, and claims DEET is safe? is aware of the problem. In an article that appeared in Natural Health Magazine, EPA toxicologist Michael Watson noted an instance 'where exposure to DEET caused six cases of brain damage in girls aged one through six - and three of them died".

Most everyone is aware of West Nile(mosquito-borne) and Lyme Disease(Tick-borne) due to television, but did you know mosquitoes are the most dangerous creature on Earth! Mosquitoes and the diseases they spread have been responsible for killing more people than all the wars in history. Even today, mosquitoes transmitting malaria kill 2 million to 3 million people and infect another 200 million or more every year. Tens of millions more are killed and debilitated by a host of other mosquito-borne diseases, including filariasis, yellow fever, dengue and encephalitis.

Our "Don't BUG ME" product was formulated as Part 2 of a system to protect from mosquitoes, house flies, deer flies, gnats, ticks, chiggers and no-see-ums. Part 1 is the “Don’t BUG ME” Bar soap. The soap provides a protective barrier for hikers, bikers, campers, landscapers or just a family picnic outing. The scent of the soap goes away in about 5 minutes, but it is still detectable and offensive to biting and blood sucking pests, creating a barrier of protection under clothing. It is amazing how you rarely feel the little creepy crawlers, on your skin, until the damage is done, such as a chigger infestation!

The Don’t BUG ME Insect Repellent Balm is for topical application when more protection is needed from pests. It provides protection and allows uninterrupted comfort and peace of mind while working outdoors, outdoor grilling, picnics, fishing, boating or just a walk outside.
It is perfect for the Whole Family. This balm has the same ingredients as the bar, but offers much more contact exposure and as a bonus you get moisturized skin.                            These special ingredients are 10 TIMES more effective at repelling insects than DEET, according to research study data from Iowa State(Catnip)University and the US Army(Yarrow).
This balm formula is also great for dry skin and it contains ingredients to soothe anyone that got a bite or sting before they applied the balm. It helps stop itching and swelling as well. Just like all our formulas, it only takes a tiny dab to provide a thin coating on exposed skin. The 2 oz jar will last and last, until your Friends find out why you’re not getting bitten! It has a very nice, very light “outdoorsy” scent of Spearmint that fades quickly. Use as needed, typically lasts several hours, depending on sweating, swimming, etc.

The bar provides a shield from chiggers, ticks, fleas, mosquitoes and no-see-ums after bathing, that lasts for hours. It is perfect for campers, hikers, bikers, gardeners…anyone that spends time in the outdoors.
It has the same ingredients as the Don’t BUG ME Balm, but in soap form it allows a shield to be created underneath clothing. Use with the balm, you have maximum protection.
